Planning 101
A dedicated gorilla trek can be done in as few as 3 days, but most first-time visitors land on 7 to 10 days — enough to combine gorilla trekking with a couple of parks for Big Five game drives, without the trip becoming a series of long transfer days. A full circuit covering the north, west and south of the country runs closer to two weeks.
Permits are capped daily per gorilla family and set directly by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, not by us. July, August and December are the tightest months — we generally recommend booking 4 to 6 months ahead for those, though shoulder-season dates can sometimes be secured on shorter notice.
Uganda is roughly the size of the UK but packs in ten national parks, over 1,000 recorded bird species and eleven primate species. Bwindi is the gorilla anchor; Queen Elizabeth adds tree-climbing lions and the Kazinga Channel; Murchison Falls centres on the Nile and is Uganda's largest park; Kibale is the country's best chimpanzee tracking; Kidepo Valley is the remote, uncrowded option in the far north.
The two dry windows — roughly December to February and June to September — give the easiest underfoot conditions for trekking and the clearest game-drive visibility. The wetter months between still deliver good sightings, with fewer other travellers on the trail and noticeably lower lodge rates.
Every quote covers accommodation at your agreed tier, a private 4x4 with driver-guide for all ground transport, park entry fees, and the specific activities listed on your itinerary. International flights, visa fees, tips, alcoholic drinks and travel insurance are not included — we itemise all of this upfront rather than folding it into one number.
Yes. The tourist routes through Uganda's national parks are well established, well monitored, and used to hosting international visitors — including plenty of first-timers who chose Uganda specifically because it's less crowded than the better-known circuits further south and east.
