Muhiga Safaris is a Uganda safari company based in Kisoro, in the far south-west of the country. Kisoro is the closest town to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and a short drive from the southern trekking sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Rushaga and Nkuringo — which means the forests most of our guests travel to see are, for us, simply home.
What We Do
We plan and run private safaris across Uganda: gorilla trekking in Bwindi and Mgahinga, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale, game drives and boat cruises in Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls, birding, cultural visits and longer routes that combine several parks. Every trip is built around the traveller, whether that is a three-day gorilla trek, a honeymoon, a family safari or a two-week circuit of the country.
Why Being Based Here Matters
Gorilla permits are limited and sell out, roads change with the rains, and lodges fill up around holidays. Being on the ground in the south-west lets us check what is actually happening in the parks before we recommend a route — which sector suits your fitness, which lodge is closest to your trek start, and how long a drive really takes in the month you are travelling.

We check gorilla and chimpanzee permit availability for your dates before asking you to commit to the rest of the trip. Our quotes list permits, park fees, lodges and vehicle costs separately, so you can see exactly what you are paying for and where an upgrade makes a difference. Every route runs in a private vehicle with your own driver-guide, at your pace rather than a group schedule, and our team stays reachable on WhatsApp throughout your trip.

The guides in our Journal are written by our planning team to answer the questions travellers ask us most: what a safari costs, when to go, how the permit system works and what each park is really like. We update them when permit rules, prices or park conditions change, and where something is set by the Uganda Wildlife Authority rather than by us, we say so.
