Nkuringo rewards fitter trekkers with some of Bwindi’s best scenery and consistently smaller groups on the trail. The steep initial descent into the forest — and the climb back out — makes it a better fit for travelers who specifically want a challenging hike rather than the gentlest possible trek.
Getting There and Staying Nearby
Nkuringo is close to Rushaga in the southern part of the park, and the two sectors are often combined in itineraries that also include the Rwanda border crossing or Lake Bunyonyi. Lodge options here are fewer but include some of the best-positioned viewpoints in the region.
